Turkey says it detained senior Daesh member near Afghan-Pakistan border

Turkey’s intelligence service has detained a senior member of Islamic State in a region near the border between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Turkish media reported.

Broadcaster TRT and other Turkish outlets identified the detainee as Mohammad Goren, also known by the alias Yahya, describing him as a prominent figure within the militant group.

According to the reports, Goren had previously travelled from Turkey to the Afghanistan-Pakistan region, where he joined Islamic State ranks.

Security findings cited by the media said he received training at Islamic State camps before rising to a managerial position within the group’s structure.

Turkey’s intelligence service has not released further details about the arrest or the timing and location of the operation.

Islamic State has carried out attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan in recent years, and regional security services have intensified efforts to track the group’s networks and leadership.
